Whew, I’ve been feeling so heavy lately. Between going back to work after being home with my baby, getting the kids back into their school routines, adjusting to my baby starting daycare, and now preparing to move, I feel like life has been coming at me from every direction. On top of that, my son graduates in 2027, and my daughter turns sweet 16 in January. So many changes, milestones, and emotions all at once.
I’m grateful for everything, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t overwhelming. Some days I feel like I’m just going through the motions, making sure everybody else is good while trying not to lose myself in the process. Motherhood really is a beautiful but exhausting journey, especially when you’re trying to be everything for everybody.
I’m just trying to stay afloat, keep my head above water, and remind myself that I’m doing the best I can. I’m learning that I can be blessed, grateful, exhausted, and overwhelmed all at the same time. 🫶🏽
the last sentence is everything my eyes and ears needed. you can be blessed. you can be grateful. you can be exhausted. you can be overwhelmed. keep going, mommas. the babies need your heart and your hands.
I feel this all so well. That transition season of your kids getting older is a lot mentally and emotionally to process. Sending you love and praying you get some rest soon❤️
If no one has told you lately, you’re doing amazing. I can just imagine how overwhelming it can get. Put yourself on the calendar too sis. Take time for you. 🤎
I want a long hug ( cuddle session) where I can have my body /mind /spirit to reset. I don’t want to make any decisions; let him make them. I am currently taking a 2 day vacation to the beach ( I need to be by the water)
I recently lost my grandma & her sister within two weeks of each other and I’m still in the stage of grief where I’m in disbelief. I became my grandma’s caretaker this year and I watched her decline from the beginning and there to her last breath. It’s been a month since she passed but this week has been the hardest, I’ve cried every day. I know this is all part of the process, so I’m just taking my time going through it.🥹
I’ve recently been dealing with new feelings of “a woman like you, could never understand a woman like me.” I am willing to go to extremes for myself and I’ve noticed there are women who will war with their intuition, heart, and mind all to be agreeable. In my 30s I made a consensus that my womanhood, motherhood, and all the other hoods in between are resolute. I’m learning every day to be okay with that, even on the hard days. I trust my discernment, and most of all, I trust myself.
let's not worry about what other women would/are doing. life tosses enough our way already. adding others to the pot gets mud in our soup. stand on/for what you believe. that's all that matters.
I took time off from work to prioritize my mental health. It's unpaid and I've exhausted all of my PTO and sick time. Now I'm wondering what's next. Should I go back to work and submit myself to the same things? I've done everything I can do. Now I just sit and wait for the powers that be to do their part. Overall, I don't feel like I'm prioritizing my mental health if I'm stressed about making sure my bills are paid. I'm in therapy but when you go on a LOA/FMLA your health benefits are paused so that's out of pocket as well. People shouldn't have to choose between paying their bills or their mental health. It almost feels like I'm in a cycle of abuse. If it's not work beating me down, it's my bills being behind. I told God not to put me back on his list of the strongest people. I need a break.
it is abuse. it sucks. it sucks really bad. it's unfortunate that it's life. i hope you find clarity and peace in your time off, even if it's only for a little while.
No because why did the waterworks start as soon as I read this. Felt like I needed the space and permission to let this weight off of me.
I started a new job in January and it’s been all good, great even. Except there were two men who made a few comments here and there alluding to the fact that I was undeserving of my position, since I was new and a young woman. (I work in Oil and Gas as an engineer so it’s a heavily male dominated field)
During the year, one of them stopped but the other amped it up and it has since grown into sexual harassment. He tries to paint the narrative that I am in sexual relationships with multiple coworkers, and basically f’d to get where I am.
I went the route of reporting but it has taken a heavy toll on me that I didn’t expect. My anxiety is at an all time high to the point I’m constantly getting hives and getting sick. I feel so uncomfortable whenever I’m around the individual and at a point I didn’t even wanna go back to work.
And the messed up part is that I’m thinking of their livelihood and I don’t wanna jeopardize their job. BUT I hate the way I feel and think concerning this entire situation, but I can’t get it out of my mind, I really don’t know what to do.
Also I’m in the throes of grief right now because the one person I could’ve gone to about this situation is no longer here and that has become a factor that adds to the weight. It’s just a lot right now.
I do appreciate you holding this space because God knows I needed this. Thank you Grey🤎🫶🏾
I actually don’t know how I feel. I’m in between so much is going wrong but simultaneously so much is going right. So I’m navigating how to be appreciative in this season. I worked so hard to get my little brother on the right track and we were doing so well, until he made a stupid decision that changed everything. Yet, I’m learning that fight is not my fight. But I wake up everyday worrying about him and pray every night God keeps him safe. I finally signed a contract at work and found out yesterday it may only last until June if I don’t get the required license I need. LOL I’m making the most money I’ve ever made yet I’m in the process of applying to law school meaning I’d leave this new salary on the table. My LSAT is in November , I’m also running NYC marathon November 1st. Did I mention I’m a middle school math teacher soooo these kids literally drive me crazy on the daily yet fill my heart at the most random times. It feels like I don’t know if I’m coming or going girl..
This year, I’ve had a personal awakening that has rocked me to my core. All of what I was taught to prioritize all seems so superficial and trivial. Everyday feels like an out of body experience and there are so many things out to my control that I genuinely don’t have it in me to care about what’s not genuinely important. Between work, strained parental relationships and an abrupt medical diagnosis of a child, I’m experiencing a sense of grief about what life once looked like that is indescribable. I have faith though that all things will work out in the end, but in this waiting season my brain is tired and my heart is heavy.
Life is weird…I haven’t felt like myself for a while. I worked my ass off only to end up laid off and living with a Mother who hates me. Grief is slowly changing me and I’m trying my hardest to fight back but I’m exhausted. Just ready to be happy again,
I’m tired and I’m also in some sort of fight with my rising sign and I feel like a schlump. I can currently fix one of those things so today when I did my stream of conscious journaling I wrote out some new rules about my appearance that I’m going to see if they help. I’m just really tired of being me, or the current me.
I’ve been trying to keep my mind out of the dark. Some days I win, some days I don’t. I’m masking everyday. I’m experiencing what I didn’t know was skill regression in my social skills, and then there’s the grief. Everything is all happening at once. It’s a lot. And I have to keep “adulting” because I learned that I have to rescue myself. I’m just burnout and tired. I like reading books because it takes my mind off the things I’m dealing with. I just want to be held sometimes. Not hugged, just held. I don’t know how to explain it. Anyway, I know I’m not the only one going through things so I’m sending love and hugs to everyone going through. 🤎
I've been trying to build The Black African Family on here and I've spent months working on it. I've been trying to find readers, writing hundreds of letters and emails to potential patrons to secure funding, putting together the editorial team and even though I'm really excited to bring this thing to life and watch other people find it, the financial side is absolutely terrifying. I keep wondering what if I'm the only person in the world who believes this thing should exist? What if I've convinced myself this is worth building and no one else out there agrees? Honestly, it's exhausting having to be the only person who keeps believing in this project and the only person who's working to move it forward. I really want it to be something that lasts for decades and changes the world for our community but I'm only one person, and that reality scares me. What if I'm not enough to make this dream come true?
Sighs… my brain is just tired. I’m exhausted with the world around me, the ridiculous thoughts of others, the way of the world. It’s a bit much and I look forward to turning it all off at the end of the day.
I feel like if I received a long hug, I would breakdown and cry. I’m so emotional ….
i hope someone hugs you... and soon.
I can understand that. 🫂

Yes ma’am , I agree with you.
The week has been heavy for me thus far, my sleep has been off and I’ve been anxious. I can’t pinpoint the reason. I want to turn my brain off.
go to bed early tonight. no phone. no scrolling. just nothingness. and do the same thing tomorrow. until your brain feels a little better.

cry. cry. cry, babes. grief has no face, timeframe, strategy, or discipline. it is not linear. it is uncontrollable so let it have it's way.

heavy hearts. mine is with you. i feel it, too.
