I have always loved the concept of a house versus a home, and you expanded on it beautifully. Your grandmother's hallway as a time capsule is simply gorgeous. My grandmother's home was the same. I want that too. I can still remember the scent of her perfume and the art/family photos she displayed.
You are SO right. Homes are made from ritual, memory, and ease. When you described your children entering your room after your passing, I was transported to what mine will look like in hopefully in 65-70 years. What an insane image. Thank you so much for putting words to the ONLY things that matter in life. Somehow it makes me less afraid of growing older.
I was just saying that I wanted to print out pictures and make a photo album like my grandparents have. I want a “family wall” similar to the one in your family’s hallway. This is important!
this one took me back to my Caribbean great grandmother’s home to memories of little me exploring the things my great grandmother kept in her cabinet and how I’d wonder where she got each piece from. and who were those people in the pictures. of me listening to her as she told stories of her life through the years as I sat under moonlight on her veranda with eyes big in awe because she’d done so much and lived in what seemed like so many different lifetimes, and I wanted to live, truly live too. thank you for the reminder Grey, you never fail to stir hearts 🤎🤎🤎
This brings me back to being in my great grandmother’s house. I remember looking in her wares cabinet and always saying “why this woman keeping all these things?” Whole time it was a time capsule. Evidence of her time lived. There was always a photo album to look through, always everyone’s wedding and graduation pictures on the wall, even our first baby shoes. She kept everything! I read this and it saddens me that after her death they packed up everything and stored them away like they meant nothing. Breaking the mold of perfection is something I’ve been actively working towards and it’s so rewarding.
This has to be one of my favorite pieces of yours. Thank you🫶🏾
This article felt like a much needed warm, hug. It also put me in the mind of this saying I hear often, “don’t be afraid of being seen trying”. I feel like this relates to that in some way. 🤎
My God! The realness & relatability of this post is eye opening. Such a reminder to showcase the life we live day to day with the ones we love the most. I’ve got some picture printing & customization to do around this place.

An easy follow. I look forward to reading more.
My favorite piece you’ve written so far. Thank you 🤎

"Evidence of time lived" so good. My grandmother had many knick-knacks, photos, and heirlooms. I agree, let's not let minimalism win.
Btw, I'm a recovering perfectionist, too. Solidarity.
That’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever read here❤️
My God. This.🤎✨
And so it is.
This was too good, Grey 🥹🤌🏾

This was beautiful to read. I’ve been thinking about my archived photos & making the effort to create a physical album
💯💯👏🤎
Thank you. I’ve been struggling with this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am printing this out for my archives.
